Monthly On Track Workshops for Connecticut Patients
Every 3rd Saturday of the month
9:00am to 12:00pm
The monthly On Track Workshop at Griffin Hospital in Connecticut is designed to address the needs of patients who are at least six months post-surgery, although all bariatric surgery patients, or those considering surgery, are welcome to attend. Each workshop focuses on a variety of topics related to post-surgery weight-loss strategies. These seminars help create community fellowship among peers and supports lifestyle change in a “judgement-free” environment. Some of the topics covered include:
- Cooking demonstrations
- Exercise classes
- Meditation classes
- Psychological issues
- Stress management
- Support groups
- Nutritional education
The workshops include three key areas of focus – nutrition, exercise and spiritual/emotional support – to help each patient achieve his or her healthy weight and lifestyle goals.
Nutrition is a basic element of success after bariatric surgery. Being able to cook healthy recipes is important, but more important than this is that the food you eat be enjoyable, easy to prepare and liked by all of the family members. It is very important that the rest of your family adopts the new healthy lifestyle habits to help encourage and support you on your weight loss journey. You will receive nutritional advice and watch our experts make delicious, healthy recipes for your entire family.
Exercise is equally important after weight loss surgery, in order to maintain lean muscles to boost metabolism and weight loss. Exercise also has a positive impact on your overall health and stamina and can even improve your mood. With our low-impact exercise classes, you will learn about safe exercises that will help you build up your routine and receive personalized advice as well. Body image after bariatric surgery changes, and the more weight you lose the more you want to get out, meet other people, be active and social. Sometimes, however, psychological issues associated with excess weight continue to prevent patients from fully enjoying their new lives. You may go through emotional ups and downs as you lose weight or plateau after surgery. Moreover, in today’s society everyone can benefit from knowing how to effectively deal with ongoing stress. Our Connecticut workshops can help with psychological counseling, stress management strategies, and even simple encouragement from your peers and our health professionals during support groups.
Keep in mind that weight loss does not happen overnight, but with your commitment and a little help from your Griffin Bariatrics support team you can achieve your long-term goals. The On Track program has been designed to meet your needs and personally address your specific questions and situation. Please register for this event.
